At a Glance- I went to school for the blind in Worcester. It was always my dream to be a professional cyclist. In high school, me and my brother built our own tandum and started to race. After many years of saving, I got myself a second   hand tandum. In 2007 we started to practice for 3 years. In 2010 we competed for the first time. I was born blind, but doctors only diagnosed me at 7 months with Glycoma.

James Van Rensburg

James Van Rensburg

BIO: I was born in 1974 in a small town in the Eastern Cape called Uitenhage. I was a scholar at Despatch High school and if you know anything about rugby, you would know that it was the capital “city” of rugby in South Africa. In 1993 my final year of schooling, I was involved in a motorbike accident and damaged the brachial plexus nerve system of my left arm.  For the next 2 years I was in and out of hospitals in Pretoria.  I went for 2 operations were the doctor removed nerves from my calves and transplanted these into my arm in an attempt to reconnect the nerves. After countless physiotherapeutic sessions and a lot of hard work I managed to restore about 10-15% of the use of my left arm. I’m married to Michelle for 14 years now with 2 Border Collies as kids.

Biography

I was born in 1976, being the first born of three.
I became an independent person from a very young age; with a natural ability to entertain at the family holiday get together. Christmas was my favourite occasion to put on my best show! Throughout my schooling career I was always in the talent competitions and school productions. One of the highlights was attending the Grahamstown festival, at which I performed as a priest in our matric house production in 1993. When I left school I began entering modelling competitions. The titles I won have all been mentioned above. In the International Man Hunt (an international competition held in the Philippines where there were 65 countries taking part) I won the talent section where I sang ‘I believe I can fly’ (R.Kelly) accapela. It was at this stage that I realised that music was a must as part of my career. I have since appeared at many corporates and functions such as Transman, Monte Casino as well as The People Magazine Crystal Awards and to a sell out crowd at Lusito Land the Portuguese festival. I have also sung at the S.A miss Portugal, J.I.P miss teen, Revlon end of year function and I was the curtain raiser to Watershed at the opening of the new section at Cresta shopping centre.
